Getafe Club de Fútbol, popularly known simply as Getafe, was officially formed on 24th February 1983 (source: official club website). Located in the Madrid Metropolitan Area, it was created with an aim to provide a platform for local talent and foster footballing spirit amongst residents.
Recounting the early struggles of Getafe is akin to narrating a classic underdog tale. Their first decade was spent in lower tiers until they reached Segunda Division B (third tier) in the late 1990s. A truly pivotal moment came when Angel Torres Sanchez assumed presidency in 2002 (source) - his leadership saw them achieve promotion to La Liga for the first time in their history after just two years.
